Hi, I am deciding which degree to pursue as I enjoy learing about disease/ infection, etc.

I thought Biomedical would be great for this as it covers what I enjoy but so does biochem and microbio.

However I'm not sure which one would have a better future with good prospects. This is becuz biomedical is quite limited e.g. working in a lab, typical things like that.

I would like to have more flexibilty with my degree, however i could be wrong about both of them.

But what do you personally think? Advice would be appreciated xx

Cat, I can tell that you are very career-oriented. However, stop focusing on what has the most opportunity, what will make you the most money, what is the most prestigious. It's going to come back at you after four or five years.

Obviously you would prefer microbiology over biomedical tech-crap if you love learning about pathophysiology and microorganisms. Therefore, I think your path is pretty clear.

Those three fields seem so related to eachother that you could pick one & later switch to another without losing much (if any) time spent on the courses you already took.

List the required courses for each degree. Some are bound to be very similar, if not identical. Sign up for one degree as your major. For the first year, try to schedule as many courses that are duplicates in the other paths.

Later decide if you want to switch.

I would expect that some professor who teaches in one of those departments could give you advice along the above lines.

Yes , you are right that biomedical field is mostly concerned with research . And you will be employed in hospitals , labs, clinics where you will be employed to produce artificial human organs , heart valves , limbs ,hands etc . But i would advice you to do what you like for the rest of your life . Salary and exposure will increase as your expertise will increase in this field which requires your deep interest and hardwork .
