Darwin used intuitive reasoning to understand the world around him, therefore he came up with evolution, an apparent explanation for what he saw, but Darwin didn’t know there was an underlying complexity of that world around him, layers of cycles, connections, from the microscopic to the macro, because the technology had not been invented for him to see that
The orchid is a case in point, he was able to intuit that there was a moth with a 13 inch proboscis, that pollinated an orchid with a 13 inch nectary, that no one had ever seen until a few years afterwards.
