My MacBook has been acting stupid in the last couple weeks as regards the DVD/CD drive. Several DVDs have just been freezing, especially within the first couple minutes. It then says the DVD Player program (not sure of the exact name, it comes with the OS I'm assuming) has encountered a problem and needs to close. The DVDs were basically in good to pristine condition, so I doubt it's any physical defects in the discs.
Does anyone know of any way to determine what is wrong? I have never used any other DVD program but the one that came loaded on the computer. I think I tried a different video program, but wasn't sure how to load the individual DVD files. I remember that it did something, but not sure it was designed to load them that way.
It's a 2006 MacBook. Original OS other than maybe one or two minor updates (10.4 or so).
Thing is, I haven't really used the DVD or CDRom drive much at all over the last 3 years since I got it new. I'm having difficulty thinking the drive could be dying already since I probably use it an average of a few hours a month.
Any suggestions? Is there any diagnostic program(s) that could test its performance?
Bye!
