<20% chance of rain at the moment for a couple of hours (actually 100% where I am, but very fine/light rain), and then same at around 8-9pm. So unfortunately nothing that would stop boozed-up protestors from getting over-zealous. I actually live in a neighbouring town/civil parish about a mile outside the city-proper, and about 4 miles from the actual demonstration location, so won't hear nor see anything other than what makes the local (let's hope not national!!) news.

Its heartbreaking watching Asian guys look at me differently last few days. Suspicion, worried or perhaps that's me as well.
One had an England top on.

All the Asian guys who come in the pub are still in and all the old guys are making a bit more of a fuss like I am.

This is not about racism, these idiots are not smart enough to even consider demographics, immigration, politics.

These SCUM, and they are absolute dregs of society, shouted at your kid because he is fat.
Snatched my mum's purse because she is 81.
Jumped a student because he was on his own and there were three of them one of him.
Was a disruptive unproductive bully at school because he hated smart kids, they made him look stupid.
Probably has a record, yeah we have been paying for legal aid for him for some time.
Cannot understand politics, why do black and brown people come to our country looking for a better life doing low paid jobs that are beneath me?
The ones who have jobs and are not a constant leach on our society? Taking part in this behaviour? Shame on you. You are even worse.

Well, the dog that didn’t bark, eh? Nothing happened yesterday, apart from a lot of peaceful counterdemonstrations denying that the rioters express the views of most Brits. Looks as if Starmer and the police and courts are following an effective strategy.

Quite funny to hear useful idiots like Diane Abbott demanding that Parliament be recalled, not to pass any laws to help the situation, since we already have sufficient, but because her constituents, so she says, are demanding an opportunity for their MP to, er, grandstand piously - and of course indirectly to make Starmer look as if he is not in control of the situation.

I’m looking forward now to a steady drip-feed of exemplary prison sentences being handed out to several hundred tattooed yobs. Perhaps too the Home Secretary might declare Elon Musk persona non grata in the UK - although there’s also an argument that “Don’t feed the troll” may be the best way to treat him. “Civil war” my arse.

Actually, what will be most interesting will be the degree to which the police manage to arrest and get convictions against the keyboard warriors who incite this behaviour. One suspects many of them simply haven’t thought through the real world consequences of their activity. They may have a shock coming, e.g. this guy in Liverpool who posted a list of all the immigration lawyers’ offices in the country.

In my locale the anti-immigration protesters could be counted on one person's hands and toes, while the anti-racism protesters numbered in the hundreds. I am so pleased to be living in an area that accepts, tolerates, embraces diversity.

Note aside: We Americans achieved a bizarre statistical result in recent years, in which white males could actually be seen in societal-scale crisis: While every other demographic group saw its overall quality of life and lifespan increasing, white men fell off a cliff. There are a lot of reasons for that result, which make for a separate discussion, entirely. In the moment, though, a persistent theme in the English look-at-them sentiment isn't entirely about shaming the rioters; it's also true some of them would seem to describe a certain context of crisis. And, actually, what finally drove the nail was the news that Flaming Wheelie Bin Man got twenty-six months↱, and somebody pointed out the guy is thirty-four years old. And I don't really know how old I would have guessed him, but it was like a certain Simpsons joke.

Thing is, it's not funny. I mean, sure, there's another TV joke in there. But they seem hopeless, like, they're not so much waiting for God as just waiting.
