I have an idea for a Ghost detection machine

I can barely hear the "ghost" while the -what ever he is - is yelling. And he's the one next to the mic. No-one thought to put a mic (or mics) all around and pick the one with best quality ghost sounds?
I did note in the introductory text on screen the word COULD capitalized a common way to back out of affirmation

There is no loop hole. It is understood that you are not required to be truthful in a show that is not a documentary or a news show. The movie Fargo for instance, in the beginning of the movie there is a screen that plainly states "based on a true story". Of course it isn't, it is all made up. The Coen brothers thought saying that would make the movie more interesting and it did.

Yes, it is more correctly inspired by (more than one) true stor(ies).
Strange thing is there can be stories, so there IS a story, but the story is complete fantasy
Make a movie about Goldilocks and it's OK to say based on a true story, meaning it is true that a story known as Goldilocks exist

Goldilocks, the story, is not a true story.
Therefore anything based on it is not "based on a true story"; it would be "based on a story".
The truth pertains to the existence of Goldilocks AS a story not the content OF the story
It would be incorrect to say Based on a story which is true
That puts the truth firmly on content

But Goldilocks not "a true story". So it does not follow that you could say its derivative is "based on a true story".
Best you could say is that it is "based on a real story".
Which can be interpreted as being the contents of the story as being real
No matter which way the sentence is strung or, more to the point the contents of a paranormal program is marketed, even with the disclaimer THIS IS INTENDED FOR ENTERTAINMENT ONLY scrolling across the screen throughout the program some people are going to tell their mates next day "I saw a program last night that showed a real ghost captured on video"
What would be completely ignored would be, apart from the scrolling message, the voice over telling the viewer "This is a interpretation of what Mr and Mrs I C Mortzoles saw"
The best TV program on ghosts etc . Was the PSI-factor. Hosted by Dan Aykroyd.
They didn't stay for a day but several days and the team was made up of scientists , amoung the best in their field of expertise . I have all the seasons on DVD .
This series is the standard that I hold ALL other series to.

Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal is a Canadian science fiction drama television series which was filmed in and around Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and aired 88 episodes over four seasons from 1996 to 2000. The presence of Dan Aykroyd opening and closing every episode and emphasizing the legitimacy of the organization it was inspired by led some viewers to take the show somewhat more seriously than intended, though it was in fact a scripted drama. They can "base" it on whatever they want. Did the OSIR endorse it? No.
Since it is acknowledged to be a scripted drama, that means there's no upper limit to how much of it is fiction.
And that being the case, even if you optimistically assume lots of it is non-fiction, you can't be sure any given part of it is non-fictional.of any events
For example, all re-enactments of any scene are, by definition, not factual.
Did they show a scene some guys going into a house with equipment? That's a re-enactment. So it's made up - even if what they based it on is factual.
What reality show is not scripted ?

You haven't whatched any of the series shows . And yes they do bring in a " team " with scientific equipment .

The fact that it is scripted for the purpose of the show means that its primary goal is to entertain, not to educate. If the primary goal were to educate, then it really would be made as a straightforward documentary, so that no elements of fiction would be conflated with the facts being transmitted.
But since the facts, as they are, aren't entertaining, they would not have a how unless they added drama.
I know. My point was: if they are re-enacting events from old reports then those teams are, by definition, not reality. They've got to make up the screenplay, outfits, camera work, dialogue, and yes, even try to re-imagine the phenomena that are reported. i.e what you are seeing is some crew member's imagination of what it might have been like had someone actually been there with a camera. i.e. in the editing room: "No, that looks like a guys with a mask on. Blur it a little. Make it a little more ethereal. It's gotta look spooky."
And, if they're not re-enacting events then what you have there is someone sitting in a chair, reading reports verbatim to the camera. And that's not what the the show is.
