Russia to support Abkhazia, S.Ossetia if they are attacked

The president said that recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia was in line with international law, adding that during the independence debate in Kosovo, Russia's western partners said Kosovo was a special case.

"Each case of recognizing independence is a special case," he said, "A special case in Kosovo, a special case in Abkhazia and South Ossetia."

He he, just had to share this.

From Pravda`s Timothy BANCROFT-HINCHEY (hard liner :D)

What Washington did in Iraq was to flout international law by attacking a sovereign nation based on barefaced lies, without the necessary second resolution needed under the UN Charter. What Washington did with regard to Kosovo was to draw a line on a map and to declare that a part of a sovereign nation was henceforth an independent (satellite) state. What Washington does in the case of Georgia is to ignore the 2.000 Russians murdered by Saakashvili’s forces (which are trained by the USA) and then to apply double standards, saying that Georgia’s territorial integrity is sacrosanct. What about Serbia’s? How can Washington think it can have it both ways?

Medvedev is Putins bitch. Whats happened to Russia is simple. The failed KGB coup d'etat of 1991 has finally succeeded. The KGB *cough* FSB control of the Russian government is complete.

Russians have this hard-on that power=respect. You know, the kind that I would imagine wife beaters have. Though, this is a terrible generalization of the Russian people and their are loads of fantastic and intelligent Russians out there. The kinda power that the Russian government likes using is fear. They seem to think that fear equals power... they seem to forget that fear often leads to anger.

Lets face its, the Russia have two things going for them, they have nukes... but in conventional warfare a combined Euro/US force would cripple Russia in in weeks. Im sure Putin realises this.

Their big ace is their control of energy supplies... they can really hurt Europe by stopping the energy supplies to European countries. Though Im sure Putin has also realised that playing this card to the full could be the incentive required for start of military activities.

1. Don`t underestimate Medvedev.
2. Get off the tired neocon media bandwagon.
3. Any comment on the actual post?

"Russia militarily annexes 25% of Georgian Republic, militias begin 'ethnic cleansing' of Georgian nationals from both regions" do it for you?

Russia Today put a nice, positive slant on the "liberation" by brave Russian soldiers from the oppressive Georgian Republic. Failed to mention the oppressive tactics, as usually employed by Russians, the rapes and lootings, the shelling of civilians, all that stuff.
Russians are the last guys you want fighting on your side, surely. They have to be the most ill-disciplined army on the planet.

And of course the US forces are absolute gentleman? You no doubt have inside information? Probably just CNN and Fox information.

The other side of the coin and of course quite understandably.

Russia in full compliance with Georgia peace deal - Lavrov

Lavrov said the Russian leadership has been surprised by level of criticism from Western powers of Moscow's actions, which he said were aimed at ending the Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-South Ossetian conflicts.

Russia to respond militarily to U.S. missile shield

"These missiles are close to our borders and constitute a threat to us," Medvedev said in an interview with Al-Jazeera television on Tuesday. "This will create additional tension and we will have to respond to it in some way, naturally using military means."

Russian analyst points to link between Georgian attack and Iran

Col. Gen Leonid Ivashov, president of the Academy of Geopolitical Studies, told a news conference at RIA Novosti, "We are close to a serious conflict - U.S. and NATO preparations on a strategic scale are ongoing. In the operation the West conducted on Georgian soil against Russia - South Ossetians were the victims or hostages of it - we can see a rehearsal for an attack on Iran. There is a great deal of "new features" that today are being fine tuned in the theater of military operations."

He said the likelihood of a war against Iran was growing with each passing day, "As a result, the situation in the region will become destabilized," and added "causing chaos and instability" was becoming Washington's official policy line.

Wake up.

You must be a Russian who believes the Russia Today angle? That Russia hasn't invaded another country but has sent "peacekeepers" to defend native Russians from genocidal Georgian military tactics?

Except there are all those burned-out houses, and Georgian refugees, and the occupation of a Black Sea port by Russian troops and navy vessels. The fairly obvious annexation ploy, and the also fairly obvious ethnic cleansing. The Russian forces massed on the borders for months, waiting for an opportunity - did Georgia "invade" itself? Or did Russia invade Georgia using a pretense?

I'd say that latter is more likely, given the rhetoric. When a general says "we did this because of so-and-so", that means they did it for an entirely different reason - generals always lie. The American ones too; all of them do - it's their job.

It is a defense shield...that is what the Russians do not get it. In fact they sent a Russian spy to USA during Regan era to tell every American that the star wars program does not work therefore there should not be any research to create one. In the meantime Russians are working on their shield for the last 15 years using hypersonic technology.

So its OK for Russia to deploy a defense shield in Cuba in case a rogue nation like Mexico attacks Russian interests? He he.

I saw in PBS that Abkhazia people do not like the Georgians and are ethnically separate. So, even EU should support them to be independent. Not sure about the other.

I hope that was not directed at me. The OP was about Medvedev.. of which I gave my opinion.. and frankly my dear.. I dont expect everyone to get it. Also, dont pretend to assume to know what kinda media I watch.. because its not the same bs you watch. Now Russians need to wake the fk up and try get a real democracy going. Hopefully one where they dont kill their journalists. I spend about 10 hours a week watching Russian Today (amongst many many other sources).. and I know how much propaganda and completel BS is fed to Russian people. Also, RT is so far up Putins ass you would think he is having a sexual relationship with the RT chairman. Bleh.

PS, from my own African perspective. I have seen how those disgusting Russians have being supporting dictators like Mugabe, so yeah, Russians are part of my immediate problems, and are causing untold pain to this continent. I think I have seen more AK-47`s than you.

Thank you Russia for fking up the world. I guess they want every country to be as crappy as their.

Grrr.. .scum propaganda liars. I hate them.
