robot mule

I think it's a lot more expensive than a real mule.

it's cool though, but I imagine very power hungry
on what does it run? fuel cells, batteries?
and how long the operation time without refil (with about 200kg to carry)
and how much in weight can it really carry?

It is electrically powers by a small 2-stroke motor. If you listen to the video with the sound, you'll hear wha sounds like a weedwacker going. Personally I think this is pretty damn good. People are criticizing it for being mroe expensive than a mule, etc. But the fact is, its a tool like any other. Vehicles eventually replaced the horse, and if the price can be brought down to real-world manufacturing levels, then this could too.

we see this thing walking over various terrain but we don't see it stopping and standing still and starting again
we see that at the start of the clip but there is a guy standing there.
he might have been starting the motor though

It seems able to brace itself from being pushed over(the kicks), why should it not be able to stop its own momentum.

it was pushed pretty hard too.
can you imagine something like that replacing automobiles ?
think it ever will ?

not really its ugly and noisy(can be worked on) but on top of that our infrastructure is build for wheels, i also dount we see that think or its familiar doing 0-100 in less the a minute any time soon.

Seems it would need allot of maintainance in order to keep it up and running. BTW how much does it cost comparied to a real mule? Where are people going to get this thing repaired at? Not a good thing at all IMO.

i think its field of use is limmited to crappy mountain terrain, where heavy wheel and belts vehicles cannot go.

And places where locals aren't willing to rent a mule, or places where mule like animals don't live.
Probably handy to research scientists in Antarctica, Greenland, and similar places.

Oh, and to geeks everywhere.
Imagine how cool to have your own luggage carrying robot! :D

Greenland seems to be doing quite well with there dog sleds(sp!), helicopters and all kinds of snow vehicles, Antartica just might be to hostile an envirement, and maybe something with a larger "foot print" is needed for deep show so it doesn't sink in ever 2 meters.

on the site i gave for background info there are other robots
they have one that can swim
even one that climbs trees and drywall

Did you notice the smile on the nerd's faces when they kicked the mule? How much pleasure they derived from trying to hurt something?

Animal cruelty will be substituted by robot cruelty.

Robot has fealing to you know...

Spuriois, nerds(male) like any other man(i suspect) loves to enjoy the fun there is the be found in pure and pointless destruction.

a cool idea, i just wonder how they'd make it as reliable as a wheeled vehicle if they went through with developing a product. like, wheeled vehicles have the engine, and then just alot of rotating parts (mostly). this thing has pneumatics/hydros/electric gearing and a number of very dymanic joints that just gives the thing more places to break. but hell, if they could make a larger version of the mule go into full gallop, and run troops at 30mph up and down 45 degree forested slopes... might be well worth the trouble.
