I decided to join because I wanted to talk about science. But when I click "new posts" all I see is stuff about religion.

The primary purpose of these forums is to facilitate the discussion of science, scientific progress, and technological development... however, other discussion is permitted. Lately, religious context has been a focal point of "discussion" (or perhaps Discord) for many members. However, the scientific discussion is still there to be partaken of!
Number 9 Bus Shelter, there seem to be a few Posters who Troll/delude themselves/believe(!?!?) that any/all Science is the antithesis of any/all Religion(s).
Ergo...any/all discussions on these Forums seem somehow to be nothing less than attacks on THEIR Religion/Faith/Fantasy/Myths/Delusions that THEY must immediately insinuate THEMSELVES into.
There seems to be some puerile need to derail or commandeer the Thread with THEIR feckless Preaching.
Number 9 Bus Shelter, you may as well get used to it, for although some have the ability to "tone it down" at times, and some even "threaten" to leave, THEY seem,for the most part, to consider SciForums as a "Huge World Encompassing Evangelist's Tent" where only THEY should occupy the dais.
What kind of science would you like to talk about? Particle physics? Quantum mechanics? General Relativity? Black holes? Chemistry? Biochemistry? Biology? The science of opening portals to other dimensions? What?
Dig a little deeper. The hard science threads don't get the number of bumps the more "hot" and controversial topics do. Better to browse by subforum of your choice than "New Posts" if your looking for more science.

The pursuit of science can't be discussed without accompanying issues of science and society. Religion as a category isn't incompatible with science, but faith is. All the Abrahamic religions are based on faith, which is fundamentally anti-science, and it poisons science education in my country (USA). Scientists who are also Christians, Muslims, or Jews, tend to separate their science thinking from their religious thinking so that reason never intrudes on their faith.
OK, we'll talk about science. How about Ohm's law: V=IR. V is the voltage across a resistor with resistance measured in ohms. I is the current measured in amps. 1 amp is one coulomb of electrical charge that passes through the resistor every second. 1 coulomb is equivalent to the electrical charge of 6.2x10^18 electrons. There you go.
I just talked about science. Why don't you talk about whatever science you know.
