Gene editing tool CRISPR/Cas9 unleashed a scientific revolution, allowing the precise targeting and editing of the genome. Genetic disorders are not, however, limited solely to the genome. RNA, the molecular product of DNA, plays a central role in many diseases for which genomic editing may not be a solution.
Team of researchers report on the novel adaptation of the CRISPR/Cas9 genomic editing system to permit customizable and sensitive detection of RNA transcripts in live cells. The method they describe represents the foundation of the next-generation of CRISPR/Cas9 genetic engineering, by allowing the precise targeting of RNA within live cells, and holds promise for the etiological study of RNA-related diseases such as cancer, Fragile-X syndrome and autism.

I can not help but wonder whether or not humans are wise enough to handel these, self editing tools.
