yeah, I'd give it a go if it were where I wanted to live. Preferably near a nice ocean beach. If the people were cool, then yeah, sounds good.

Yeah, but, most of these sorts of chicks don't like to shave :( for me personally, that might be a problem?! :p

:D

Totally, I don't see a downside really. Unless it turns into a giant ghetto I guess, but I'm sure property prices would be prohibitively expensive so that probably wouldn't happen :).

I want a yard, a dog, a pickup truck and a carbon footprint.

Arcos are for SimCity2000.

The goal of Arcosanti is to explore the concept of arcology, which combines architecture and ecology. The town aims to combine the social interaction and accessibility of an urban environment with sound environmental principles such as minimal resource use and access to the natural environment. To accomplish this, the project is building an experimental town on 25 acres (0.1 km2) of a 4,060 acre (16 km2) land preserve.

An Arcosanti ApseHaving begun construction in 1970, the town is still very much a work in progress. The population varies between 50-150 people, based on the number of students and volunteers on the site, but ultimately the town is intended to hold 5000 people. Currently there are 13 major structures on the site, of at most several stories in height, but the master plan envisions a massive complex, called Arcosanti 5000, that would dwarf the current buildings.

No, I really do not want to go there this late in my life and start over again. It is a nice idea but to few will go along with the plan in the long run. People are to materialistic it seems today. I do hope them well and that they continue their endeavors.

and which one do you think would develop better economically if all variables were equal except the ground-plans shown above?

I agree.
If I live there then maybe I want to live somewhere else.

From skimming, I would guess an arcosanti is a fancy way of saying arcology-basically-the town IS one big building.

Whether I would like it or not would really depend on the building and the neighbors, wouldn't it? But I want my own defined green space indoors and out, because I like to grow things and be connected to the planet I live on.
My dream living room would double as a greenhouse with all my fave cooking herbs growing in it for convenience...
I'd sort of like an arcology shaped like a flattened dandelion seedpod, so everyone's connected, yes, but we've all got our defined spaces. I need my own territory and space as well as group interaction.

Undergrounding it would absolutely not work in the climate I live in-the building would grow mold like nobody's business and become uninhabitable.
