Hi,
I wasn't logged a while...some problems.
I tried to find the threads started by me and I have not succeeded.
Could you give me some indication?

It seems that there is a cut-off date before which posts will not be searched by the search engine. I was doing a search on some topics the other time and was surprised by how few results I was getting; then I went and browsed the forums directly and found many old threads not found by the search engine.

This is a problem. I'm PMing JamesR and Plazma Inferno to see if it can be reversed.

Strangely if you put the details into google, you can find the older threads, lol

I had like a 7-8 years break from this board, not sure why i never posted in that time, but i can find my threads in google.

There is a problem with the search function at the moment. The site developers are aware of it and I'm hoping it will be fixed in the near future.

In the meantime, a google search using "site:sciforums.com" in the search term should find older threads.

There was a database issue that was affecting Search option. Anyway, it's been fixed.

But it is still limited to "Find latest posts by user."

If I want to find an old post, and I know the keyword and who posted it, then if the post is too old to be in the "latest posts" bracket, it won't show up.
It used to be possible to search by keyword and poster. This kind of search isn't really viable when done with Google (way too many results).

You can search posts by user under Advanced Search, if you choose the "Search single content type" option.

The default is "Search multiple content types", which doesn't seem to work properly.

Sure, that's what I've been talking about. But that option is limited to "latest posts", as I've been saying.

Not sure what you mean. Are you going through the "Advanced Search" dialog, or through the user profile?
With Advanced Search, I can find posts from 1999 by searching for "Universe" in posts by Tiassa.

the thread display from my profile page still does not work.

the post display is screwed up.
if i go through the first page of posts to, say, the 3rd page and click to go to the thread, then after reading the context and going back to post display the post display starts at the first post instead of defaulting to the post i was reading.

Of course I'm going through Advanced Search -> Search Single Content Type.

For example:
this thread: http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?69046-Crisis-of-truth-is-suspicion-the-answer
can you find it with the Sciforums search function in any way?
I couldn't, I used Google.

Hello wynn. The problem you've described is related to vBulletin search engine. We cannot do much about it.

@lepold:
I'm not sure I understand. What you're describing is normal vBulletin behaviour. It will always land you at the first post, when you browsing thread using pagination.

Of course I'm going through Advanced Search -> Search Single Content Type.

You're right.

I can't get the search to return any of your posts from more than a couple of days ago.
Same for lightgigantic.

Oh... Searching all Fraggle Rocker's posts (no keywords) returns a bunch from 2003 and before, then some in the last few days. A ten year gap seems to be missing.

Searching my posts (all dates, no keywords, ascending by date) stops in 2003.
Same search, descending by date, returns a few from the last couple of days, then a jump back to 2003.

Plazma?

Now that that is solved, when I look in a person's profile, I used to be able to see a history of their threads and posts. Is that gone or is it that I have messed up my settings?

I guess it works, but only goes back so far. Older posts and threads started are cut off. I wonder what the cut off period is and how to go back to posts and threads dated before the cut off?
