Americans now more politically polarized on climate change than ever before

    Cigarettes contain half a dozen toxic substances. This is verifiable. If somebody lived 80 years and smoked for 65 of those years, we can reasonably suppose that the cigarettes did not kill them. We cannot, however, infer that the cigarettes did not harm them. All we can be sure of is that they had a higher tolerance for those toxins than most people have. (Such exceptional tolerance might be worth studying, but cadavers are of limited utility.)
    A child who is not allergic to peanuts might, nevertheless, suffer emotional damage from killing his best friend, who was allergic. On the other hand, curing the allergy might be better for everyone.
    Science has uses other than political football.
    If computer models of climate change are unreliable, camp on the edge of a permafrost cliff in Nunavut in June. By July, you'll be either convinced or NA.
