You, and your detractors, have quite failed to notice the use of Fire as one of the four elements. The ancients would certainly have considered an active lava flow as fire.

And today provides a handy metaphor to desccribe anything that is hot and glowing - hence, for example, electric fires. Or even more metaphorical, "she stoked the fires of my heart".

So, you weren't wrong absolutely, just wrong in context.
