Has there ever been an election where so many felt divided? Women, minorities and the lgbt community.

Maybe he wont be as bad as they fear and it was just political like stunt to get votes.

Well that's the thing, nobody knows. That's one reason for the 900 point drop in the stock markets early this morning. People are waiting to see what he will do. They are waiting to see who he appoints as his top advisers.

Trump's problem is he has made a number of very big promises which are just not consistent with what people are looking for. Will Trump betray the people who voted for him? Was it all a big act to get their votes? What I have heard isn't promising, but it is consistent with his past behaviors. Trump appears to be filling his top positions with loyalists. That's not a good thing.

Below is a link showing the protests:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-trump-hotel-protest-chicago-20161109-story.html

These protesters are making the nation proud today. I think it's beyond time to modify the Constitution. This is the second time a Republican has been elected POTUS without a majority of the vote. We need to get rid of the Electoral College. The POTUS should be elected directly by the people and every vote should have equal weight and equal value.

Now I seriously doubt Republicans would ever sign onto such a change because it would mean the end of Republican power. Republicans wouldn't control Congress and they wouldn't be control the presidency, because they don't represent a majority of Americans.

About every four years, yes. The last real landslide we had was when Reagan was elected.

I don't know how you can honestly claim or imply it was a "landslide" when you lost the popular vote and barely squeaked by on the Electoral College vote. But hey, you're a Republican.

Protestors? What happened to all those pre-election resolutions to triple the population of Canada? Did the latter erect its own wall overnight to stop illegal Yank immigration?

Come on, dissidents, drop the signs and get that promised exodus moving. It's the world's longest unprotected border and the "left behind" residents are looking forward to finally having some elbow room in the world's greatest Hell.

Behold, the emerald lights of Canuckistan await beyond yonder horizon. Hasten, comrades, hasten!

I really truly hope trump will be a decent president and he is not as shallow as he conveyed. This is the part that makes me laugh though. If in the next four years the right thinks its a license to harass women, minorities and gays, the democrats will take the next election.

You know that saying that what goes around comes around. Well, that could be a republican's wife, daughter etc or republican themselves and they are going to realize its not so pleasant with what they've unleashed. People dont walk around with a political badge. Same with the racism.

Thats what the right wants, of course. Stay and fight for your rights.

There are a lot of comments that the protestors should be ashamed of themselves, sore losers, undemocratic etc but especially this part that republicans didnt take to the streets when obama won to protest convinced that this is further proof of the intolerance of the left.

Does anyone catch the deception in this logic?

The left specifically doesnt target the right's special interests as much, it just makes room to address their own. The left doesnt care what religion or church you belong to, who you marry, whether you are straight or gay, whether your prolife, who your friends are etc. The right can still go about their business as usual. Thats why the right wouldnt be protesting like this because it is the right that is always way more invasive, oppressive, intolerant and dictatorial!!! And always has been.

This is the major problem with conservative logic and i blame nature for this unfair paradox that appears so shallowly equal but it isnt more than they.

Did you catch that? How can you expect respect in return if you dont respect others views? Sounds right, doesnt it?

But thats the point, they dont respect so thats why they cant or more like deserve that respect back because the game isnt about that. Its not a case of you are pro-life, i am pro-choice and we all can make our choices because we respect both sides. Then this logic would honestly apply. Instead it is a predator/prey scenario when the right pretends its an equal playing ground or plays by the same rules. The right violates very life of an individual whereas the left doesnt but asks for room for differences alongside.

Extreme dishonesty. Actually very nasty but able to use shallow logic very easily to appear the same. This is the tactic of the right and their nature. They go for blood but pretend they are innocent. They pretend they are tolerant/fair but call leftists intolerant if they oppose their intolerance or view to screw you over (lol). Their shitty conundrum.

Do you think Trump will give a hoot about the Republican party after he has finished his term(s)?
He is not there as a Republican he is there as Trump...and that is what makes him a scary President. ( he has no loyalty to anyone else other than Trump)

Of course he does, otherwise he would be a democrat or independent. His racist and sexist rhetoric appealed to the typical right. I lean democrat but i wouldnt say im some staunch devotee. I pick and choose or discern what is best not blindly back everything that falls under no matter what. Thats dangerous, unbalanced and corrupting no matter what side of the fence or what party affiliation.

I would think if there is any hope for him, in his case, is if he truly didnt have a one-sided loyalty to anyone and he is playing the political game.

oh come now.. he knew the only way to get where he wanted to go was to nominate as a Republican with his uneducated white male support base. He would not even have been looked at as a Democrat or an independent.
He used the weaknesses of the Republican party to his full advantage.
note the emphasis is on the word USED
Trump is not and never has been a Republican.

The Canada Immigration website did crash, though, although they claim it had nothing to do with too many users wanting an application.

Would that be the same Dow Jones index that closed 257 points (1.4%) UP on the day, at almost 18,590?
Or are you referring to the Asian markets that actually dropped 1,190 points (from high to low) yesterday only to return to that high level during earlier trading today?

People got nervous on the result, panicked, then realised that the sun still rose in the same place and the sky hadn't fallen in, no pits to the fiery underworld had formed, and things - for the time being - are pretty much as they were. The jitters will be more likely to set in once he announces policies that are likely to affect world trade.

Yeah , it appears that all the "predictions" ( including polls ) through out this campaign and subsequent election have been way off... funny about that... hey...

and given the enormous nature of the error can we consider the assessments of what when wrong for Hillary and right for Trump to be any better?

I guess nothing bad will happen to minorities. Maybe some mainstream media will realise that pushing transgender toilets is not really a priority for most Americans, but Im not sure about it

It's not the media that's making it an issue. And thanks for your totally unfounded reassurances. The rest of the educated public will keep on fighting.

Yes, the polling got it wrong. The people the polls expected to show up and vote didn't. On a good note, most Americans voted for Hillary Clinton. Where it not for an antiquated part of our election process rooted in slavery and intended to preserve slavery, there would be no electoral college and our president would be directly elected by a popular vote.

This is twice in recent history where the will of the American people was thwarted by the Electoral College. It's time to get rid of this vestige of slavery. The president should be directly elected by popular vote. But the odds of this happening are nil to none, especially with Republicans in power.

Yes it would be. Markets recovered, and ended in the green, but not by much. Since being elected, Trump hasn't gone off on one of his crazed rantings. He got points for not acting crazy as he has done in the past. He got credit for a mild acceptance speech. And as I wrote in my previous post, the markets are waiting for what happens next. What will Trump's next 3 AM twitter rage bring? How long will his campaign staff be able to prevent him from tweeting? Trump needs to grow up.

Is Trump serious about his campaign promises or not? We will find out. If he begins a trade war with China or Mexico, it will not be good for America. It will make products more expensive and it will put Americans out of work. That's not a good combination. His spending and profligate tax cuts will reek havoc on the national debt. His banking deregulation would set the banks and indeed the world up for yet another Great Recession. It took 7 years the last time Republicans deregulated the banks. How long will it take this time? While deregulation of the banks is good for the banks and their stocks on the short term, on the longer term it doesn't bode well for either the banks or the economy. Next time it might not be so easy to pass an appropriate fiscal response. It wasn't that easy last time around. It almost didn't happen, and that should scare the bejesus out of everyone.

And then there are the military engagements, Trump wants to renegotiate the agreement with Iran. That could result in the destruction of the agreement and Iran becoming a nuclear power. That would result in war whither the US is apart of it or not. Israel will not tolerate a nuclear Iran regardless of what the US does or doesn't do as a nuclear armed Iran is an existential threat to Israel. And then there is the matter of our international alliances; Trump doesn't seem to understand why these alliances are important commercially and militarily.

On the good side, Trump is for spending on infrastructure. For 8 years now Democrats have tried to push through some serious infrastructure spending, but have been steadfastly opposed by Republicans. Now that we have a Republican president who is also pushing for a massive infrastructure spend that infrastructure spending is a real possibility, and that would be good for the economy.

And then there is Trump's signature issue, his wall and deporting 11-12 million illegal aliens. That's a massive spend which is good for the economy, but it is also bad. It uproots 11-12 million people most of whom have jobs and are actively participating in our economy. Deporting that many people would decimate industries who rely on these workers. We would have 11-12 million more residential vacancies. These deportees would no longer be purchasing goods and services and the industries who hire them wouldn't be able to produce goods and services owing to the lack of labor.

Builders and aggregate producers would do well building Trump's wall. But getting Mexico to pay for it as he has promised might be a step too far. Trump's antics are damaging America's credibility with our allies and that's not easily fixed. Republicans and Democrats alike have spent decades building an American reputation of reliability which Trump would/could easily destroy. He already has eroded it with his rhetoric.

More than that, Trump will never be able to fulfill his promises. Even some of his followers know he cannot deliver on his promises. Trump cannot bring back manufacturing jobs despite his rhetoric. Many if not most of the job losses are the result of technology, and that's not going to change. It will exacerbate with time. A huge chunk of Trump's base of support is engaged in the transport of goods and services from point A to point B. That industry will be radically changed in the coming decade, not by foreign workers or illegal aliens, but by artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is on the verge of rendering millions of American workers, who are earning good wages, obsolete, e.g. truck drivers, cab drivers, couriers, food delivery drivers, etc. What's Trump going to do about that? Trump doesn't have plan for dealing with that.

So as I wrote before, the market is giving Trump a reprieve. We will have to see who he appoints to key positions and how they act. We will have to see how Trump acts. Is he still the crazy man or has he become more reasoned and responsible? Is he serious about the crazy stuff or not? Trump could be a good president, but he could also be a very bad president. Judging by the campaign he ran and his history, he will be a very bad president. But he could surprise us. I'm hoping to be surprised.

I wouldn't suggest anyone go crazy in the stock market just yet. But with the election of Trump, market risk has increased substantially and risk isn't just when stocks fall, it's when they go up too. Another word for risk is volatility, and with Trump we can expect much more market volatility, e.g. day one. Trump is a big risk.

    Opinion:

Fraud: The way to tell if a fraud is being perpetrated is by noticing things like contradiction, hypocrisy, inconsistency, false hope, poisonous referral, irrational flattery, excessive exploitation of fears...and so on..

What is sad about this is that typically education, and a reasonable self esteem, are required for a person to know when he is being duped or not.

Thus the current dilemma for the USA and the global community.

The greatest electoral fraud ever perpetrated is happening in plain site and the USA has about 30 days to avoid it's ultimate success.

Obama once said, when he realized Trumps attempt at destroying the delicate and fragile racial balance in the USA,

"I have faith in the American people"

It is important to keep in mind during these troubling times his words.

Well.. I have faith also in the American people and maintain faith in Obama's capacity to deal with this greatest challenge of his professional career.

There is an old saying "It is not how you enter a room that counts so much... it is how you exit it that does"
