On the contrary, I think this thread is actually going somewhere. Though it started as a somewhat whimsicle note, I think it has the potential to change minds, which is what debate should be about. Don't you think?

Not sure since the article does not assume superiority, merely difference. It is however interesting to see that the evolution of the brain is continuing. Now we just have to make sense of it.

I just don't see who it benefits, the porn industry?

This thread isn't only about dicks. Have you been reading, Chatha?

Indeed, I don't recall the article having mentioned race at all. It does, however, support the assertions I've been making throughout the thread. Did you read the article about the study in Canada that examined and analyzed 100 brains, which indicated a positive correlation of brain size and intelligence?

I'm afraid you will have to point exactly where the article supports your notions because i have not quite come to the same conclusion.

This is an excerpt from that article you linked us with. This is very close to the argument that I've been making throughout the thread. Do you remember me asking the question something along the lines of:
"Considering how expensive large brains are, why would we have comparatively large brains if they didn't make us more intelligent?"
Obviously, my opinion is that we wouldn't develop large brains if they didn't make us more intelligent. This is in accord to what is said in the Nature article.

I'm unclear about what your thoughts on this subject are. I think you know what mine are. Maybe you can clarify your position. Do you still deny the relationship between brain size and intelligence? Give me a broad outline of your thoughts on this subject, please.

it continues by stating that there is hardly variance between brainsize in humans. Evolution is working on something else.

no, wait...that is the science article.

    this was the nature article.

Nevertheless the authors put little emphasis on any correlation of the Microcephalin/G37995C andASPM/A44871G with brain size. Instead they suggest that these haplotypes have more subtle effects on brain function such as personality, cognition, or susceptibility to mental disease that might give a selective advantage. Others have suggested that the effect could be upon fertility; MCPH genes are expressed in brain and gonads and could have a role in the asymmetric cell division of gamete meiosis. Regardless this is an exciting set of findings, which leads to many testable hypotheses and may take us a step forward towards explaining ourselves

That's only part of the article. The part that I cited is also in it. Look through it. I didn't misquote.

yes, i know. Increase in brain size drove early evolution. At one point there could not be more increase. Then the changes were more structural in nature.

    I didn't misquote either. It's all there!

Anyway. it's not the orginal. It's a news and views article.

Did you read the article about the study in Canada that examined and analyzed 100 brains, which indicated a positive correlation of brain size and intelligence? I recommend reading it in full. It's pretty short and contains some information worth knowing--well, IMHO.

    It's a news story.

Does that matter? It's citing the results and findings of the original study.

No. News stories are for blowing up science out of proportions. It's a way to get attention.

It will have to wait till monday. I am not at work.

It's not like the findings are the researcher's words paraphrased. The main findings of the study are quoted directly from the head neurologist of the study. Can't you figure this stuff out on your own? Do I have to hold your hand through every little thing?
