Lessee: very little order or regularity in - what was that ? oh yeah - the blues.

Sometimes called the "12 bar blues", for some reason. Any idea why ? And about which a well known aphorism states "There is no such thing as a new blues lick" or words to that effect.

The first "black music style" I ever heard was a Folkways recording of the royal Burundi drum chorus. I wouldn't say the fantastic complexity of those performances impressed me with a lack of order - and of course "beat" and "regularity" are often linked, in music. Drum choruses tend to have at least one beat - you might even say they feature the beat.

    Just saying.
