Why is sciforums traffic so low now?

The goal is a woo-less Science forum wit lots of traffic.!!!
No forums on any topic really, are just specific to that topic, though. If you look at non-science forums, most have sections to discuss a variety of topics outside the theme of the site. That drives traffic. And then the hope is that the person if he/she doesn't already, takes an interest in the site themed topic. In this case, science. If 'woo' is being brought into the main science sections, then I suppose that'd need to be moderated. If you do away with all the non-science related sub forums, you'll have little more than an echo chamber.

It's a good idea, but it won't improve traffic, if that's the ''goal''
It's not. It would be system where we don't care about traffic. Like add a paypal donation button at the top, along with monetary goals.

Yes those are the facts... an a few years ago when bidness was boomin some of administration wanted to get rid of the riff-raff (traffic makers)... an as they put it "a lot of blood will be spilled"... an it was... an then the forum became more like they wanted (except for lots of foot-notes below the posts bein manditory) by bein a more intelligent commuinity... an now the pendilum has swung the other way to increase site traffic... but so far only 1 permabaned person has returned to help Sciforums out.!!!

An intelligent community that also has solid traffic flow, it can happen. One doesn't need to be sacrificed for another.

Plazma is currently spamming the forum with cut and pasted click-bait (against forums rules). This cannot be the answer.

I think that is unfair. I am learning a lot from many of his posts and quite a few decent science discussions have started from his posts. At least he posts real science news, not credulous woo or stuff intended to yank paddo's chain to no purpose.

If so... i wonder why administration hasnt put such a plan into action.???
I think this is a great forum, but like many forums, it can be cyclical. People come and go, good posters and trolls, alike. There is a spot for all voices, which is nice.

Posting science news on a science forum is spamming? Interesting viewpoint. As exchemist has pointed out many of the posts have initiated interesting discussions. Perhaps you should reconsider your definitions of spamming and science forum, or your membership of the forum.

Think that the administrators, and mods can only be expected to do so much. It's up to the general posting ''population'' to not entertain trolls, which used to happen a lot. It's better to just ignore people who are here for reasons to just pot stir, than it is to start name calling because most trolls, that's all they want...attention. Like flies at a picnic, swatting them only attracts more. lol Just ignore them and they'll fly away, eventually. Not sure if we're permitted to name names here, but there was a poster in the past...his name began with 'B,' if I recall, and I noticed he's been perma-banned, which doesn't surprise me, because he was often scathing in his answers, BUT...he was very smart and interesting, and not sure if in my absence, he was warned? But, looks like a few people were banned that used to post here back a few years, who were intelligent, so not sure what caused their bans, or made them retreat.

Yah, I agree. It's already devouring Plazma's time just to select and post multiple newsworthy stuff on a daily basis. He can't be expected to reflect upon and add his own thoughts / commentary to each and every article just for the sake of steering discussion about it in a particular direction.

There also seems to be some kind of underlying, popular(?) belief that most members of a web forum are ritualistically visiting online news sites and journals on a daily basis; and that for some strange reason few have any interest in discussing developments with fellow club members ("Oh, hum. Already know about that."). Making any lingering "newsgroup" aspect or function from the old usenet days unnecessary in these web forums (posting articles, links). But so much research material is released during a week that it's difficult to imagine even most information addicts digesting it all. So it's handy to have Plazma spotlighting important or interesting items.

Finally, isn't Plazma supposed to be one of the "founding fathers" of this place, or was at least administratively affiliated with the owner(s) is some earlier respect? Anyway, when the site suffered major technical problems in the recent past, he's the one who suddenly popped-up from the blue to explain what's going on and answer questions. If there's anything to what certain scattered bits or ambiguous revelations in the archives claim about him, then he can probably pursue whatever approach he bloody well pleases to stimulate interest in the forum.

I didn't know that about Plasma and the history of the forum. But I try to make a point of commenting on Plasma's news postings whenever I can contribute, since I think this place could do with more real science, to balance the feuding and the nutters. I am learning a lot. For instance now I know, sort of, what a "photonic crystal" is. And I think Q-reeus' observation that anything that converts light to heat and then back to light must be subject to Carnot cycle efficiency is rather a good insight. And so on.

Yes... i thank administration has bent over backwards to make Sciforums the way diferent posters want it to be.!!!

Yes beter posters woud help a lot.!!!

Unless sombody is makin death threts (for example) they always get plenty of warnin before they are permabaned... ie... i have no dout that this "B" person was properly permabaned.!!!

Concluson:::

Administraton is doin its part... but some of the posters need to get on bord wit administrations goal for Sciforums.!!!
