McDonald's is only one brand of product. You can't extrapolate CULTURAL global influence from just 1 product of food. You even ignore some examples that I gave.

Keep extrapolating. All nurses in the world are smokers because all nurses in the nearby hospital where I live are smokers .

What about football, Will? You know, the most popular sport in the world, with share of 3.3-3.5 billion fans around the world, which is around half of the world population. Is that also influence of USA culture?

And what about religion, Will? You know, nowadays, there are around 2.1 billions of Christian followers around the world, 1.5 billions Muslims, 1.2 billions Hindu followers, some half millions Buddhis around the world. Is that also proof of USA influential culture? Oh, sigh, maybe I make up those numbers. Perhaps it is scientology or what's the name again.. that made up the world major belief.

The world's most important staple food is rice. Who eat rice on daily basis? Asian (Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Philippines, Malaysian, Nepali, Japanese, Korean, etc etc), ok no need to go on to other regions of the world, Asian alone make up 4 billion of the world population. I wonder why they don't eat McDonalds, um I mean bread, you know, like American, like everybody else.

Kira,by listing all these non- exclusively national concepts that no one country has claim over, you're coming off as very jealous of the USA right now

You have no argument? I only showed you some evidence that the world is not all about USA. That is the crux point about it. The world does not revolve around you, Will.

Addressing the military issue. . . yes. That's why. But the influence of the USA goes well beyond the military and I'm sure you are aware of this.

Did I use the word "great"? If I did, it was a poor choice of words. Influential. Powerful. Those would be better words.

Though, China does not have the power or wealth right now to project itself militarily much beyond its borders. In another 20 years? Sure.

Kira, is this just an opportunity to rage about the USA? Really? You're acting angry about facts and have resorted to petty insults just to make the USA look bad. And to be certain, there is a lot the USA has to account for. But none of these things are the issues.

But, if you're going to bring up debt, we might as well acknowledge the fact that the percapita debt of the USA isn't even in the top five. . . or even the top 13! Moreover, powerful nations have ALWAYS been in debt up to their ears. Britain owed every cent it had, for a century to its debtors in the 1800's. It just finished paying down its debt to the USA for assistance in WWII. Most of Europe is still paying off loans made directly afterwords. Germany, the UK, and Japan all have significantly more debt than the USA, per capita. The USA is the largest industrial power on earth, therefore, it's total debt will be larger than most.

    Don't know anything about that.

How did he imply that other nations were insignificant?

How are my facts bad? Everything I stated was verifiable.

    Superstring,

how come there is no mods or admins take action when I reported the insult by WillNever towards Asian people in this thread? Or is it if someone criticizes Asians it is "just stating the truth", but when someone criticize USA it is "wants to make USA looks bad"?

Please read the whole thread or at least the last 2-3 pages of this thread.

Superstring, what is your opinion about this post in this thread, surely you didn't miss it:

And what about some other posts:

If you were an Asian, how are you going to response? Is it perhaps, "It's all good, you are just stating the truth, thanks

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

    "
    ?

Did you report those posts? I don't recall seeing anything by you.

Besides, you aren't breaking any rules. You are picking on the USA and that's your right. So, that was sort of a non sequitur.

    I'll read everything you posted.

I did. I was thinking to create new thread about it in the SF Open Government to get my complaint noticed, but then I guess it's too early. I just file the report today, so maybe the mods/admins need some time. If they don't respond till tomorrow, I'll send them PM tomorrow.

    Thanks for taking time.

Uhmm, James R... I just would like to thank you for enforcing the rule by temporarily banning WillNever for racism. Actually now I don't feel good that WillNever should be banned, I wasn't sure why I was really upset; however, in good spirit I think no one should be allowed to promote hatred towards other races, nations, regions, etc. Therefore I would like to ask for this thread to be closed, as it is also potential to promote such hatred. I apologize to the US American fellows that might have been offended by my posts in this thread.

p.s.: sorry, Will..I take it back that you are notorious for racism, I must have mistaken it.. I hope you enjoy your three days leave. See you.

Looks like James rectified the situation.

And, you're right. Upon re-reading Will's posts it's obvious that he crossed the line. The only post that I read with racism was the "greesy Asian" comment, which I thought was a joke. (telling off-color jokes isn't expressly forbidden. . .)

Hope this brings you some satisfaction on the issue.

I favor a simpler version of that approach.

I would leave Economics and History alone because they are not quite so American-centric and they get few enough posts that one person could change the nature of those forums if they chose to just by posting there.

For World Events and Politics I would Create one World Events Sub-Forum where posts that include the mention of the USA, Israel and and Islam would be allowed and a second World Events Sub-forum where the USA and Israel can not be mentioned and Islam for the most part also can't be mentioned except by people who know what they are talking about and are talking in context on some particular nation and are not on an anti-Islamic rant.

I would do the same for Politics; I would create one Politics Sub-Forum where posts that include the mention of the USA, Obama, Israel and and Islam would be allowed and a second Politics Sub-Forum where the USA, Obama and Israel can not be mentioned and Islam for the most part also can't be mentioned except by people who know what they are talking about and are talking in context on some particular nation and are not on an anti-Islamic rant.

In the Non-American, pro and anti Israel, and anti-Islamic forums there could be sticky threads for regions. Maybe a sticky thread for China, a sticky thread for the rest of North East Asia, a sticky for South East Asia Australia and the Pacific Islands combined, a sticky thread For India, a sticky for the rest of South Asia, Southwest Asia, and Central Asia combined (but Afghanistan and Iraq topics and Iran or Saudi bashing would have to go in the USA Israel Islam forum until they cease being part of the American/Israel national dramas), a sticky thread for Russia, a sticky thread for the rest of Europe, a sticky thread for Africa (except Darfur which has become part of the American/Israel Muslim bashing drama), and a sticky thread for non-USA North and South America.

On the other hand Sciforums as a whole might benefit from adding a whole second level of Subforums. Each sub-forum could be divided into sub-forums. This might be good but I don't know that I have seen this done yet at other websites.

Guy's this is "Sciforums" and its expressed purpose is scientific discussion. Because it is a rather tight-knit community, with regular, active members, who develop relationships and common interests, it is inevitable that we would stray into non-scientific subject matter as part of normal conversation. To accommodate the community interest in other topics, and to keep non-scientific discussion out of the real scientific discussions, the Administration has grudgingly allowed for the other fora (world events, politics, art, free thoughts). But the "other fora" aren't the real purpose for this website.

Call it a safety valve. But, expanding the safety valve to anything larger than what it is now (much less, MORE than half the forum) is out of the question. If you want a variety of world-wide discussions on history, politics, arts, world events, business and economics, etc., then it is advisable that you locate a forum with the topic depth that suits those interests.

Sciforums will be here for the other stuff you want to discuss.
