[alpha-rulez] Moderators are not being disciplined enough and are very naughty

hows this:
i have never seen a post of quality from you, yet you are a moderator. how is this, when i have witnessed you stalking at least 2 other members, trolling every post they make?

you should leave. for the good of the forum. perhaps you should consider that you are part of the problem.

ooh noooo...not (Q)!! he is untouchable!

Seconded.

I would miss him.:bawl:

He, er, stimulates me.

Everyone being the same is boring na?

On the other hand I may be talking bollocks.

Yes, you are.

However, when the preference is to protect and coddle the "somewhat less," when you would much rather read the kooks and nutters posts, then perhaps it is time to leave. The science here has all but died and those who made it flourish are all but gone.

Even JamesR posts aren't interesting to read anymore as he now must spend his time dealing with those kooks, nutters and the "somewhat less."

There's really no one left here worth reading. It's little more than a glorified chat room for the "somewhat less" to indulge their idiocies.

But hey, if that's the preference and that's the way you wish the forum momentum to go, then fill your boots...

I'll say very little, sit back and watch you act superior to everyone.

moderator insulting members from an ivory tower.
i want something done.

C'mon James, that's a weak effort to get me to give up the "Three-Legged Race" and "Chili-Eating Champ" titles at our annual picnic.

sometimes memories suck. this might be one of those times.
as far as (Q)s moderation i have no complaints.

I'd like to provide some "equal time" commentary by voicing some support for what (Q) has to say here.

I can't say anything about the other science forums here, but as far as the Physics and Math forum goes, I partially agree with this (I say "partially" only because I have never seen that forum flourish). But historically there has definitely been a moderator bias in favor of the loonies, and it really has
driven most of the knowledegable people out of there. If a forum is called "Physics and Math", then people who study and practice those disciplines should be able to gather there and discuss their subjects without being ridiculed and harassed by blithering idiots.

The last thread that I thought was really interesting was Trilarian's Rotations in Spacetime. As it happens, he left right after posting that thread because a moderator edited his post. Allegedly, it was edited because it contained some disparaging remark directed towards one of those aforementioned idiots. On the face of it, the edit appears to be defensible, as personal insults are never appropriate, right?

But going back to Trilarian's earlier thread Mass doesn't change with speed the aforementioned had referred to the thread author as a "moron". That's a personal insult, right? So it shouldn't still be there, right?

Oh wait, yes it is still there in Post 20.

Gee here's a thought, maybe the few physicists and physics enthusiasts who have graced this forum with their presence would want to stay here and participate civilly and constructively if they could post what they know without being dogged by mentally deranged crackpots, who are all too eagerly protected by the forum leaders.

protected?
i have no doubt that tesla was called a crackpot more than once.

anyway this all goes back to off topic posting and what invert was saying.
mods are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
so, what do they do? weed out the most offensive of posts and leave the rest so that they can be accused of "protecting" crackpots.
like invert said, this is more of a user problem than a moderation problem which means that we the people must rise up and grab the bull by the balls.

True, that.
In fact, he rarely wears his mod hat. Therefore, complaints about his behavior are generally misdirected as people tend to focus on him being a moderator when the 'offenses' are all based squarely in userland.

Oh wait, yes it is still there in Post 20.

Think that might have been an oversight? Did you, perchance, try to report said insult to see what happened?

It's funny how the simple fact that a moderator can't be everywhere is interpreted to be 'coddling' a particular 'class' of user.

protected?

Yes, protected. By that I mean that the crackpots around here are allowed to shit all over good threads, and insinuate that both the great physicists of the past and those who accept and build upon their work today are morons that are blinded by the establishment.

i have no doubt that tesla was called a crackpot more than once.

I'm not talking about people who buck the trends of modern physics or who come up with their own ideas and post them here. I'm talking about instances like the one I cited. Trilarian started two perfectly good, uncontroversial threads and look at what happened to them. In Physics and Math that is the rule, not the exception.

That isn't true. I am a moderator at another message board devoted to science, and we don't have these problems. That's because we don't let the same offenders make 5 or 10 thousand posts. We warn them, and then if they don't stop the bullshit we get rid of them. It works just fine.

so, what do they do? weed out the most offensive of posts and leave the rest so that they can be accused of "protecting" crackpots.

That is not what they do. The nutters around here get to say whatever they like to anyone, including the moderators. Then when the victim gets fed up and retaliates, the former's posts remain on the site while the latter's are edited. It happens all the time. I recently had a post deleted and was given a 5 point infraction (whatever that means) for giving CANGAS a taste of his own medicine. It's like going out to a park, only for someone's rabid dog to come up and bite you. Then you kick the dog, and the owner gets all bent out of shape and begins to correct you, and not the animal.

Well if you'd chained up your rabid mongrel in the first place, I wouldn't have kicked the stupid fucking thing.

like invert said, this is more of a user problem than a moderation problem which means that we the people must rise up and grab the bull by the balls.

Speaking only about Physics and Math: It is most definitely a moderation problem. The problem is that the forum leadership seems to have no clear idea of what they want the Physics and Math forum to be. If they want it to be a place where dedicated scientists are welcome to come and discuss their subject, then they are going to have to get tougher with the abusve nutters, instead of showing them preferential treatment.
