Atlantis and other lost continents

Dave,
Yes ,you are correct I was going to mention the devils sea. Did you know that there are other spots pretty much equally
spaced apart around the globe in the northern and southern hemispheres where
compasses go wild? The bermuda triangle and devils sea are just much worse. An area in the devils sea is off limits because they have had such a bad problem it is much worse than bermuda.

Oxygen,
Yes I'm sure that would happen but a lot of those preachers do quite well financially. I think as time goes on and more discoveries are made people will realize that what we thought may not be
correct. There are definately more questions than answers about our past and religion. What are the chances that what we believe now is correct?

I think the chance is equal to the pope running out into the street in a toga.

Oh yeah, on that latitude-longitude thing, I forgot that the planet is a bit egg-shaped. That would mean that coordinates do not have to be exactly opposite. I need a globe, duuhhhhhh

The story of Atlantis is rooted in historical fact. However, like the Bible (I'm going to be razzed for this one, I just know it - save it for the Religious Debates forum, people) one cannot take the story literally, for it has changed greatly since its inception. Indeed, even from the words of Plato, it was never truly "history" per se, but more a great story *based* on the disaster that (probably) truly happened. Like the Great Flood or any other fantastical legend that still exists today, the story has been embellished and altered to the point where it's near impossible to tell what to believe.

We *are* able to gather an inkling of where this grand story came from, however, and it's a story no less thrilling. Here are some links (no worse off without tales of Atlantian aliens and such!) for further reading:
