Feedback on forum software upgrade

I would like a moderator to respond to this so I know it has been noted as a problem, otherwise I will start pesky PM's

When using PM's It seems unusually hard to navigate back to the forums. Perhaps moderators have a different page for PM's and do not have this difficulty. If so create an account and go into the private message areas and try to navigate back. I recently went to site map at bottom of screen and then clicked sciforums.com. It should be easier.

I'm having trouble understanding your problem. When I want to PM I click on the persons ID and select PM which takes you to an advanced PM window. When done if you click your back button a time or two and your right back where you started, or you can select the Forum tab to the sub-forum listing. I haven't found a forum that's any easier than that.

95+ % of my PMs are replies to received PM, and since I´m slightly dyslexic, I will have edited my PM reply several times before actually sending it.

That is why I called doing a long string of the Browser´s page backs "the simple ugly solution" i.e. more than a dozen "page backs" just to get back to the page telling me I have a new PM, then there is the box asking if I want to read in new window, etc. - for me something like 20+ browser page back is UGLY, but I don´t need to remember the thread I was in.

What you are looking for possibly is a tab that allows you to return to your previous forum page...so that after you send of your pm you can click the tab and return to the forum you were using prior to accessing the pms section. This woud be only avaiable as a mod...plug in type addon...[needs to store a cookie I think.] as I don't think the system would have it as a option.
The forum tab top left works fine for me, but I do admit it takes some getting used to.

I don´t think MODs "have different page", but YOU can do that {assuming your browser supports multiple tabs open.}

Not rarely when making a post, I will recall an image I posted months earlier I want use again in the current post, but not know even in what forum it is in. So I open new browser tab on Sciforums and search for it. (Keeping my tab with current post open.) When I find desired image (or text) I use Reply with Quote, and copy onto clip board old image, then cancel that reply and close new tab. (probably the cancel is not needed)

You just use a new browser tab after Sciforum log on (if needed instead of automatic) to send the PM then after sent, close new tab. - You don´t need to even remember where you were - it is still open in first Sciforums tab.

Stryder answered my question well, although those options did not seem obvious to me. I had no idea that the logo was a picture link. I should have also tried clicking on the "Forum" word which also works as well.

I suppose one could open PM in a new window/tab, or repeatedly hit back button. These are both cheesy and unprofessional options to navigate a website.

If you scroll to the top of this page you will see
"SciForums.com:sciforums.com:Site Feedback:" and you know that if you click it it will take you home.

Some websites have a Home button at the top/bottom of the page.

I understand workarounds and other ways to find sciforums home (main list of topic headings), but if I want to click my way from the PM screen to home there is no direct route. The closest route I saw was clicking sitemap at the bottom of the PM screen and then hitting a topic or sciforums.com at the top of the sitemap.

I KNOW there are ways back. I know HTML and PHP and have put together many websites. I am not a computer novice. I see an area of this website that really is not easy to navigate (go to pm screen and then click your way back). I am not whining or in need of assistance I am mentioning a noticed flaw. One simple Home command at the top of the screen would make things simpler.

But there really is 2 items at the top of the page that will bring you back. I just wish they stood out better as links.

Don't you see a Forum tab next to the Encyclopedia tab, which is next to the What's newtab?
top left.....global menu system I think... I'm using FFox so maybe other browsers can see it.

Demo that post 284 method is simple and fastest (least clicks) way to leave a SF page to send a PM and return to that same SF page (with no need to remember where that SF page was):

Click #
1 on open browser´s new tab
2 on Sciforums (in list of commonly used sites – lower half of address block in FF. I have 11 sites in my "always displaying" to open with one click list. )
3 on Private Messages (under Encyclopedia assuming SF opens with the Forum Tab active)
4 on Send New Message
Write message
5 on submit message
6 on close of the browser tap (a small x in the open browser tab in FF)

Now PM is sent and you are back home (at SF page you were when deciding to send PM).
I think all other approaches take 7 or more clicks plus most, if not all, require you to remember (while writing the PM) where in SF you were.

I do not know if this has been mentioned, but multi-quote selection is not cleared after posting. So your next post in that thread will include the last multi-quote selection. A minor annoyance, but it does mean you have to make sure you click the view post icon of that quote and deselect it.

The date is there; it is just hard to see. Use your mouse to highlight the text to the left of the time stamp.

We are aware of this problem. The site developers have been told about it and will hopefully fix it some time in the near future.
