Hallucinations caused by Cannabis

Hi!

I used to think pot was a harmless plant that anyone should smoke whenever they want to. Most people can, however, I noticed that my brother used to see "space aliens" in his room at times when he was full of anxiety and weed.

I myself saw a mans head change shape to appear alien for a second or two, at the time I was mentally ill and believed I had seen an actual alien being, when In reality the fact is that Cannabis effects my DNA a little different than most people!

Cannabis has been linked to mental illness, especially with me. :D

Glad I stopped smoking!

If there ever was a double-edged sword, it is cannabis.
I'm glad I stopped too (well, since Thursday :D)

hallucinations? yeah, I buy it. I've seen come crazy stuff on weed, like the silhouettes of trees that perfectly formed the word "PEACE".

I don't think you literally see shit like on acid or DMT or whatever, but cannabis sort of opens up your imagination to things that you wouldn't normally see...

as for not smoking, I feel like myself again. Being a pothead took so much away- it deprived me of the very vitality that makes each day worthwhile.

but of course, our brains are unique, and this experience is not universal.

We do have unique DNA which is why I present my case as different, because I DID see some guys head change shape! ALIENS! :p

If you have any predisposition to underlying mental illness, there's good reasons not to use anything recreational...the evidence against marijuana's stacking...

OTOH, there is a chemical isolate from pot that seem to help depression-but not the THC that gets you high....and I read that but can't seem to find a link, dangit.

So if you have depression, get the cheapest weed you can and make tea, I guess? You're not using the same chemical as the one that gets you high.

Pharmaceuticals are still generally going to be safer, cheaper, more reliable, and less deleterious treatments for most people with psych disorders..

I never knew anyone who had a hallucination after smoking pot (or taking it in a less harmful way such as digestion or these new vaporizers). I go back to the days when they were called "reefers," and the only person I ever knew who had a negative reaction to it was allergic to wheat and she stupidly ate it in a brownie. I've known a few people who had no reaction to it at all.

Most "bad drug reactions" are the result of taking more than one at a time--usually with alcohol. Mixtures of drugs have not been studied and therefore the effects are unpredictable.

Never hallucinated and went "over the line" plenty of times- four hits too many, that is.

But then again I smoke Mexican or more likely crappy Canadian pot.

Have no interest to get that high to where you're seeing aliens.

I suggest instead, you consume large quantities of alcohol and see if it has the same effect.

i've smoked cannabis thousands upon thousands of times and no "weed visuals" are a match for insomnia-induced delirium, that I assure you!

It will take a little longer than a weekend to really be clear of Cannabis's side effects, especially if you used for a long duration prior.

You'll find that if you can go without it for a few years that you'll look back on how you have been while using it completely differently.

Some might even be disgusted at themselves in hindsight for how they ended up with a drug-induced pro-cannabis stance.

As for increasing side effects, it's not just Genetic's that effects a person in regards to use, there are greater and greater numbers of microwave technologies in use (e.g. Mobile phones, wifi connections) Those technologies generate heat radiation (i.e. non-ionizing) which is absorbed by the blood barrier. That increase in temperature can induce alterations in brain chemistry which are greatly elevated by induction of recreational chemicals (as well as potentially causing a number of side effects to immune system.)

Funnily enough, not much is ever considered in regards to the levels of radiation caused by technology, but that's because of the amount of money the industry is worth.

[Please note: Non-ionizing radiation isn't the sort that causes an increase in cancer risk, however it can contribute to Hyperthermiac reactions.]

what if the "hallucinations" continue even though you've quit smoking?

i have never, ever, ever even heard of someone hallucinating from smoking pot. i wonder why it is you deemed yourself mentally ill because of what you saw? what if it actually happened? can your mind not handle that possibility? the thing is, a lot of people who are sober have seen things very similar.

have you ever experienced missing time?

With stronger strains, combinations of drugs, and the possibility your stash has been 'enhanced' with something, yes, it's perfectly possible to have hallucinations.

You'll get a bunch of stoners saying it can't happen, because it's never happened to them, and then folks like Lori, who thinks that crazy shit is real. The truth lies somewhere in between.

I've known people to mix peyote with marijuana and had some interesting experiences. It wasn't uncommon for different kinds of things to be added to marijuana as they still add stuff to it today.

(Nahuatl word peyotl), is a small, spineless cactus. It is native to southwestern Texas and through Mexico. It is found primarily in the Chihuahuan desert and in the states of Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosi among scrub, especially where there is limestone.

Well known for its psychoactive alkaloids, particularly mescaline, it is used world wide as an entheogen and supplement to various transcendence practices including meditation, psychonautics, and psychedelic psychotherapy. Peyote has a long history of ritualistic and medicinal use by indigenous Americans. It flowers from March through May, and sometimes as late as September. The flowers are pink, with thigmotactic anthers (like Opuntia).

A couple of key words have been used here that flag the probable actuality underlying the statements.

Many persons who are mentally ill self - medicate. Cannabis is a common drug for self medication. If you are crazy and consume cannabis, it is not the pot that made you crazy in the first place. Same thing if you substitute alcohol in what I just said.

Another factor here is the fact that about 90% of what we "see" is created/manufactured by our brain from the raw information input from our eyes. Any irregularity in that system will generate "hallucinations", especially in poor vision situations.

Another factor is our minds ongoing effort to create order from sensory input. This subsystem feeds back into the one I just mentioned above, so you "see" an alien where there is in actuality just a human being in poor lighting. The basic human mental characteristic of forcing order on disordered input generates a lot of emotional uproar on an ongoing basis - flying saucers, ghosts, magic etc.

Last, but certainly not least,
...The New Zealand scientists said their study suggested this was probably due to chemical changes in the brain which resulted from smoking the drug.

Note the extensive use of qualifiers in this statement:

"scientists said"..."study suggested"..."probably due to"..."resulted from smoking" one pivotal sentence with five qualifiers placed there as 'escape clauses' just in case someone questions the study "results".

If this had been an actual study result, it would have said something more along the lines of:

...professors A and B of the neurobiology department at the university of Perth in Australia state in this months issue of the Journal of Professional Neurobiology that their 2011 study of 20,000 subjects firmly establishes that delta nine tetrahydrocannabinol prevents efficient re-uptake of serotonins in neural synapses resulting in the subjects developing schizophrenia..
(^ this is an example, NOT a serious scientific paper being submitted for peer review.)

Anyone who has read a few scientific papers will recognize what we refer to as "hooey" in that first statement. (My example I freely admit is hooey as I just made it up) Anyone familiar with contemporary cannabis politics will be aware that there has been a conservative backlash against the recent loosening of cannabis laws in Great Brittan. The ammunition the conservatives have been using is a series of flawed pseudo - scientific 'studies' out of New Zealand. These 'studies' have been resurfacing an a constant basis for several years now both on their own and buried in "meta - studies" where several flawed studies are reviewed, combined and restated as a "new" study. Thus far though, all of these New Zealand 'studies' that I have read have been based on a single study done on a small self - reported sample set of a few hundred aboriginal people. Self reporting is problematic in serious studies, and the agenda I perceived on that one was racial in objective - it seemed meant to somehow prove that the native Maori people were inferior to the European - descended folks there.

I enjoy the testimonials and anecdotes, recognize the flawed studies because I have seen them so many times now and get a good laugh from the jokes. This is one of my research areas though, as most of you are aware, and I can't let hooey go unchallenged.

I call "hooey" on the statement that cannabis usage causes mental illness and challenge anyone who disagrees to hork up a real study to back up their opposing viewpoint.

As usual I will be glad to submit titles of several serious scientific publications that address this issue, beginning with the "United States National Academy of Sciences School of Medicine Report to the US Federal Government on Marijuana and Medicine". (spoiler: they didn't find any association between consuming cannabis and developing schizophrenia)

...different kinds of things to be added to marijuana as they still add stuff to it today.

Not in Detroit. That cuts into the profit and there is no need if the pot is decent. It is decent enough in Detroit.

Don't know about where you are though...mebbe it is all schwag there.

ok, so i'll play devil's advocate with you and others like cosmic and diode man and ask, why aliens first of all? have diode man and his brother ever hallucinated anything else or just aliens? and why did they both hallucinate about aliens? were they smoking the same pot? would diode man suggest it's because their dna is similar? and i'm going to assume they both smoked more than once, and that they both smoked that particular weed respectively more than once and ask, did they hallucinate every time they smoked weed, or that particular weed, or just the one time?

Yes, pot makes you hallucinate, that's what it's supposed to do. I remember when I first started, I smoked a joint with a friend of a friend. He left and I laid back and fireballs started to emerge from my eyes perfectly synced to the music. I noticed that once I had a hallucinogenic experience, my mind was more sensitive to making random connections between my imagination and what I could see. It never became a problem or anything, every experienced drug user should know how to deal with hallucinations. I fine a meditative state can encourage this type of thing, most people smoke pot in a party atmosphere that precludes concentration.

ok, so i'll play devil's advocate with you and others like cosmic and diode man and ask, why aliens first of all?

Two options:

1, Aliens are amongst us, and we can only see them when we're stoned off our tits.

2, Both had been exposed to similar stimuli, and one was in a suggestible mood after the other said they saw aliens.

Hmmm, now which is more likely?
