how to convert video to just audio?

There's a wonderful freeware program called MediaCoder.
It really is rather good, and converts most AV things to most other AV things.
To convert video to MP3 you would merely disable the video and set the output to something like the Lame MP3 - set the quality and click Start.
Or something like that.
The alternative is a program like Audacity - in which you can record "what you hear"... so click record, press play on your music video, and Audacity will record the audio... which you can then edit (clip the front and back etc) and save/export as MP3, I believe.
Only downside is that this only does it "real time".

Try this method to get things done, you can record audio to mp3 directly, no need for converting. Surely this toolkit also features converter.
I have two - "Any Video Converter" and "Format Factory". "Windows Movie Maker" can also extract audio, but it comes out as .wma not .mp3.
There are lots of apps that do this but the easiest free one step app I've found is this:

It can record any sound playing on your PC and save it as an MP3.
You could try covering your eyes

Besides using media converters, you could also try to use an audio recorder to save audio from video as mp3 files directly. Available tutorials could be found on the internet source.

Windows Movie Maker can extract audio? I didn't know that lol. Been sitting right here under my nose the whole time.

I actually uses Youtube downloader, because there's an option in YTD for conversion. This one really help, for it will convert your video, but it will not lessen the quality of the sound of the music.
