The Syrian "Revolution": A Farce from Beginning to End

About what? He is a pawn in Pentagon's hands, the guy does what others tell him to do. He might as well just read a newspaper and poop and eat all day long.

The world's a little more complex then that: the pentagon is not so all powerful, no one is, the world is a bunch of tails waging dogs!

I would that all Presidents find a way to relieve stress and if golf is it then so be it. You chastised Joepistole for bringing in Party politics and you brought in Petty politics! Sad really sad!

no, playing golf has nothing to do with politics. it has to do with doing the right thing, by your country, that you supposedly lead. it's in poor taste at the very least, and shows a lack of concern at the very most. if you disagree, so be it.

Ah yes, Pantsir-S1, Mig-29, Ivan Drago, they will all bring America to its knees. But none of them will serve Syria nearly as well as the army of prisoners it's training for human shield duty.

Pantsir-S1 is a protection against missile launches (it has been modified with new radar systems as well)

Mig-29 is only one of planes, yes its old system, but it is fast and has newer installed missiles.

Drago is an image of Russians that you have grown up by from watching US films.

MiG 21/25
Mig 23/29
Su 22/24

in estimated quantities of 100s each, is good enough to do the job.

and army prisoners trained? Another media tactic for discrediting Syrian regime. What new ***t will the US media give to its public?

Hardly anyone takes Iran, Hezbollah or this particular conflict seriously to be honest, nor have many been taking them seriously for the last 7 years during which events have led up to what we see today.

I am sure he takes the Pentagons ADVICE into consideration when HE makes a decision. Shall we compare ASSad to Obama? Someone that genuinely cares about his people to someone who will gas his own people for the most basest of reasons, his own power! PFFT!!!

Yeah, awesome! Those weapon systems really worked out so well for Saddam in his wars with America! :)

Totally! Petty!

Well, that's a shame. I don't understand why. :(

Grow up, no proof is given that Assad gassed anyone, you are being swayed by the media. He does not take advice from Pentagon, his decisions mean nothing if it is "against national interests".

Who genuinely cares for his people? Assad. He is saving the country from being overridden by terrorists, backed by USA. He is saving the country's resources from being USA controlled just like they are now in Libya.

Once upon a dictatorship....Assad used to have a somewhat decent reputation, but not anymore. I don't believe he is 'saving his country'....he's far from a white knight. You shouldn't believe that, either. The only thing I'll say is we don't know with 100% certainty that he was responsible for the chemical attacks. But, the rebels are the only other alternative to that option, and it doesn't sound like they had the capability to carry out such a mission. So, one could draw a conclusion that Assad was responsible.

Meanwhile, Back in the Beltway

Wegs said:

So....President Obama is off playing golf? Wow. I'm not anti-Obama in the slightest, but that's poor judgment on his part. :/
Meanwhile, back in Syria.....................

So ... Congress, who wants a say in this, is still off on its recess?

The way I'd put it is this:

(1) British Parliament isn't in; Obama lost his key ally for this one.
(2) Congress wants in.
(3) Facing a broad spectrum of political pressure against a unilateral executive decision, Obama now awaits Congress' advice.
(4) But it's not important enough to Congressional leaders to bring Congress back early.

What would you like him to do? Sit at his desk, pissing himself and chewing his nails, until Congress gets back?

Optics are generally a poor metric, as they depend less on fact than perception and political presupposition.

You ask Joe why he's making this about politics? Because that's what the delay is about. To wit, Congressional leaders may not be back from their vacations, but their staffers are busy sharpening knives for the argument that will result if Congress refuses to authorize the president to act. For the House Republican caucus, especially, this isn't really about Syria or the Syrians; this human crisis is an opportunity to go after the president.

Meanwhile, in truth, I'm rather quite dazzled by the degree to which the press and punditry are caught off guard by the delay. Certes, it's an interesting development, but we've apparently become so accustomed to imperial presidencies that it is somehow a stunning political maneuver that Obama has checked the bet.

Remember that democracy is the last refuge of the scoundrel. When a president has nobody behind him, he hands the mess off to Congress. It's the American way.

You mean he is saving Syria from terrorist's like himself? That bodes well.:bugeye:

Everything you say here is the sad truth as to how we (all participants involved) ended up here.
I don't disagree with Obama's hesitancy, in fact, I admired him for it all along. I don't classify myself as a repub or democrat, so to me...I just want to see the best policy of how to act, put forward.
However that may play out.
I don't think anyone should be 'vacationing' right now...not Obama, not anyone. There should be a sense of urgency at this stage, to make a decision about Syria, and stop delaying.

That's how I feel about it, in a nutshell.

I find this hard to believe. You mean Israel does not take this seriously? If Israel takes it seriously then we do or appear to, anyway.

To your point, I think Israel most definitely takes it seriously. Israel was all over the news today. It's been in the shadows for the most part, at least from what I've seen, relating to this Syrian crisis. What to make of that, I don't know. I shudder to think of the role the media plays in such things...downplaying Israel's concern by not giving it much media play. (speculating)

The sad reality is that the pawns of this mess are the innocent people. As always, it inevitably becomes a political chess game between countries, and the innocents are all but forgotten.

I am sure it is intentional on Israel's part to remain in the background as much as possible during all the upheaval in the Middle East, probably supplying the U.S. with intelligence as they see fit.

The truth is I do not know why I am participating in this thread!:( I hate violence and usually get too heated when I see people discussing who has the best weapons and who can reign down the most destruction on each other. Kind of like my dog is bigger than your dog but in fact they are talking about innocent lives!:bawl: Just another pissing contest! My hope and my desire will not happen in my lifetime, but one day the eradication of poverty and war will be realized! I have hoped this since I was a child and will never stop believing it:)

I'm with you on this. :(

CptBork, seemed to work for me - in dealing with you!

Oh? I musta missed something here.
