No where in the article does it suggest that the hammerhead gave birth to either a male OR female.
Parthenogenesis that gives rise to a male is entirely dependent on the sex-determination mechanism. In humans, the chance of getting a male from a female would be astonishingly low, given how much DNA would pretty much have to come from nowhere. In some reptiles and birds, where temperature determines gender, it would not be surprising at all to have parthenogenically produced males.
Or birds I suppose sense it is the female that determines the sex of the offspring.
Just because you weren't alive at the time does not mean the observation did not take place. Do you also think there has been no observation of Pharaoh?
