Was it done on purpose?

Now, Putin using mercenaries instead of Russian military is F*d up itself but, would he actually use the military to liquidate them on purpose: https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-06-23-23/index.html Are those two -Putin and Wagner group- just saber rattling cause of a mistake or did Putin really want to kill his mercenaries?

Is this an indication of Russia loosing to Ukraine and Putin, looking for a scape goat: 'Oh, I would have won but, Wagner tried an insurrection at the time"?

And I thought the USA was a cult but, this:
Russian governor appeals to Prigozhin to "abandon his plans"
From CNN's Uliana Pavlova

The governor of the Russian region of Kursk, which borders Ukraine, has urged Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin to abandon his plans.

“The Kursk region closely cooperated with the PMC 'Wagner' in the training of fighters of voluntary people's squads of our region, and I myself took this training,” Roman Starovoyt said in a Telegram post.

Wagner should not be forgotten, he said, because “together we rejoiced at the success of the guys when we liberated Soledar and Artemovsk (Russian name for Bakhmut), and mourned together with the families of the fallen soldiers.”

“The ambitions of the leader should not cross out the past merits of ordinary fighters," Starovoyt added, directly urging Prigozhin "to abandon his plans, lay down his arms and prevent the development of an internal conflict in the country.”
Well, if I was Ukrainian, I'd go killswitch engaged; fight for my land and prove I am not a '28 Days Later' zombie. [Politics make humanity look so cute.]

Is this, Wagner incident, a foretelling that Russia will loose?

It doesn't help matters for Russia, that's for sure.
Does it mean Russia will lose their war with Ukraine?
No, not in and of itself.
But it won't help.
It's early stages of their internal issues, and the significance to the outcome of their war in Ukraine will depend on how it [the internal issue] plays out.
It could lead to withdrawals of some troops from the front line to help combat any insurgency.
It might weaken the Russian defensive line sufficiently for Ukraine to make major inroads with their counter-offensive.
Or it could just be a short-lived side-show without too much impact at all.
As they say: watch this space.

I read reread then reread the "covered so far" brief and I'm still uncertain of what exactly happened. The mercenaries were on site apparently when a strike by the military took out many of his men. That much I caught by reading. The retaliation statement was too vague to confirm intent and the Moscow's defense statement denied the actions and/or the statement made by the guy who vowed retaliation.

Possible insurgence I guess would be in question, but unless they're already at odds, I doubt it has much validity, given the nature of war and expectations or at least very possible scenarios such as the one documented playing out. Casualties of war would be the term utilized, but something was denied .... Although Im hard pressed to determine what exactly.

It could have been done on purpose. Propaganda is part of the process, but unless a division is further played out I doubt it'll have much effect aside from confusing people like myself. Then again, that may be the intent. Keep people confused, blind, and uncertain - that divides well enough on its own merit.

I watched that eventually, when I wanted to relax and distraction whilst in the throws of high alcohol attenuation .:leaf:

American Intelligence knew of the plans to attack the Wagner group weeks in advance? What would that implicate? o_O

Germany (NATO) is sending soldiers to Lithuania... I think it's a different political environment from that of the year of 1941. -_O
