why can moderators say what they like, but everyone else can't?#
I have to be a little more direct!
so why can they? are they above they're own rules and regulations? why don't they have to follow regulations? everyone else has to!!!
I think this initial post is a little wrong.
While this site has many moderators, most of them do try their best not to be offensive or either be overly offensive or troll other posters threads. However there are a few that push boundaries like many of the posters here do and the Moderation/Administration team does not necessarily agree with their methods or statements.
The problem is that as Moderators are Volunteers they are not "contracted" to abide by specific rules as if this site was a company, which is why in the very rules of this website it's stated that the owners of the site (and administrators/moderators) can not be held responsible for peoples personal views or content submitted by them.
To put it bluntly, the reason that most moderators respond to such posts like this and might come across as defending or not adding much in the way of defense is because moderators do not have as much control as people would suggest.
Basically each moderator has their own understanding of what they do here and what they might believe they are trying to do for sciforums future. Some might be selfless and want to see this community evolve, while others will be just clever enough to become a moderator just to get around being moderated themselves for their senseless trolling. (I'm not saying it happens here, but I know for a fact that other forums have people become moderators just to abuse the "rights" they get and give a forum a bad name. It's an unfortunate problem that in all honesty can not be remedied by a Staff of volunteers with no background checks)
At the end of the day, the future of the forum is in the hands of it's owners rather than it's moderators or community for that matter, perhaps it's an evolutionary dead end, but in essence it's the main reason for what is seen as moderator Apathy.
As it's been stated, If members have problems with particular moderators. Voice your concern directly to Plasma. If they are truly that insulting then it's likely there will be more than just one person willing to voice their concerns about a particular moderator which will make sure it's taken seriously. a Public poll in all respects isn't going to taken seriously, not because of the OP not being taken seriously but due to such polls being voted on just for drama and not giving an accurate figure of discontent.
I guess you can say, if you have a problem PETITION directly.
