Heaven is real, says neurosurgeon

Tell that to the wild west history. If there was no fictional concepts like law, there wouldn't be any humans left.

Creating these "fictional laws" as you call them, is part of human nature. That is why every culture has laws, whether written or not. Even apes show a social order. They do not just have chaos and constant killing. Humans have emotions and one of those emotions is compassion. We don't have to believe in a God to have compassion. We are not even limited to showing compassion only for fellow human beings. How often do human beings show compassion for animals. Hell, I know people who show compassion for inanimate objects. You should see Neverfly when he is nursing his 63 chevy back to health. I get jealous sometimes he cares for that truck so much. But I guess I do the same for my 78 mg midget.

Compassion is part of human nature and no amount of atheism will remove it. Only sociopathy seems to eliminate it. And many sociopaths claim to believe in a God.

Yes, John Edward, Sylvia Brown etc don't care about the money.

I'm a hippopotamus.

What do you get when you cross a rhinoceros with an elephant? Elephino...

I knew that someone will bring those people, but I don't mean on them at all, I mean on the ordinary people, but none knows about them. And they don't care about money and fame. You will never hear about them.

Yeah, ok- You don't know much about history do you?
Tell you what... Why bother with history?

Let's look at the most secular nations and what their crime rates are:
Most secular (average agnostic or atheist 15% or higher... Some were over the majority- higher than 50%)-
-Austria
-Belgium
-Czech
-France
-Germany
-Hungary
-Netherlands

United States is 79% Christian
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

Ruh Roh, we have a statistical problem here...
Most of the more secular nations have a lower homicide rate than the United States, which is vast majority Christian!

That's what statistics says, I really don't believe too much in statistics, generally speaking. However, when people lost their jobs and become homeless those concepts no longer work.

How do you KNOW what those people want? Are YOU psychic? Who is this "he" you speak of? I don't think you understood my analogy with the doctors at all. When you go see a doctor for being sick. Your doctor may prescribe for you a medicine. His hypothesis based on observation of other patients with similar symptoms is that you will have a similar response to the medication that other patients of similar symptom and medical background have had. Occasionally, this little experiment will fail and you will not have the expected response to the medication and they will have to change medications. In this case you have been experimented on so therefore you are a lab rat. The intentions of the doctor may not be the same as investigative scientists in a lab but the procedure and methods are the same.

This is my point exactly, there are scientific rules you have to follow, if there are people who have unusual abilities, their abilities break those rules, they are stigmatized.

I knew that someone will bring those people, but I don't mean on them at all, I mean on the ordinary people, but none knows about them. And they don't care about money and fame. You will never hear about them.
Then why bother believing these imaginary people of yours exist?

You say you knew someone would bring them up... all the palm readers and tarot readers and their ilk- all profiting from believers suckered into the hope they can give them something that they simply cannot.
You say you knew but you didn't bring it up yourself, did you? You say you knew, yet you bulled ahead anyway, fully aware that your argument didn't have a leg to stand on. Wow.
That's what statistics says, I really don't believe too much in statistics, generally speaking.
"I reject your reality and substitute my own."
Yes, math is notoriously unreliable.

Stigmatized huh. I dont think sylvia brown seems to mind the stigma. She pushes her delusion onto every tv show that will cater to her. She then deludes her fans right out of their money. OH right you think she is real I bet. Even better to prove my point. Assume she really is psychic. No one is studying her. She is out in the open and has made every effort to secure her fame and fortune based on her supposed gifts.Your claims that they don't want the money and want to avoid stimatization falls flat dude.

Yes, in this case it is, in vast majority of cases isn't (but not all). Playing with holes in statistics to prove who is right and who is wrong, is not very reliable method.
My opinions have nothing to do with, everything I spoke was objectively, honestly I don't care if there is something beyond this materialistic part of the universe, my answer is you cannot know, to tell for sure.

And like I said I don't mean on this people, read above.

Do you realize that by saying "in vast marjority of cases" you are using a perceived statistic? So you are using a statistic to prove that statistics are unreliable. Awesome. Just Awesome.

For not caring, you're doing a fine imitation of it.
And like I said I don't mean on this people, read above.
No, because 'those people' that we know exist don't match your description.
You mean other people, that no one knows about that do match your description.

Time travel is impossible because it creates paradoxes. But a spirit world is different. It's like a coexisting universe that is so extremely subtle that it mostly goes unnoticed. A spirit world is the ultimate "gotcha", it's the ultimate cosmic joke. You have to be psychic and/or crazy to detect it. Yet people have experienced spirits for as long as there have been people. But don't sweat it. When your brain finally dies, and you still exist, then the joke is on you.

Time travel is not impossible. We have just not figured out how to travel in any direction but forward or any faster than time itself. So it appears as if we are stuck in the present.

When you figure it out, can you get me next week's lottery numbers? :D

This is nothing more than unsubstantiated junk.

The actions are discernible to me. Usually it involves forcing myself to look at things from another point of view. Intentionally seeking out the silver lining within a cloud. Or actively ignoring something that would otherwise disturb me but have no other real detriment to my life. Like if Balerion calls me an asshat. I have a choice. I can choose to remain happy by ignoring his remark, disregarding it as inconsequential to my true being, or I can choose to take offense to it, allow the comment to have a stronger affect on me emotionally than is rationally called for. I can allow my happiness to be disrupted by giving credence to the remark and validating it by behaving like an asshat in return.

It is up to me how I respond, emotionally and in action. He then can choose how to feel about my reaction to his comment. And this choosing goes back and forth on a constant basis.

See, so there are details. Too bad it took so long for you to reveal them.
I would also have subsequent questions, as there are more details, but I rest my case for now.

As for how I KNOW I won't live forever, well it is based on evidence. The lack of evidence to the contrary is enough by my judgement to conclude that there is no afterlife. There is no way to prove with any absoluteness one way or the other, but my conclusion is based on solid evidence or the lack there of.

Lol.

Actually, wynn, no offense, but this is the first time you've contributed something, which I found interesting. I located a sermon that took on a form of a letter, which was similar to what the neuroscientist, Rodolfo Llinas said, “I can imagine a religion saying that matter and energy is God. It’s a beautiful thought, but instead of understanding what you are, you want to be what you’re not. However, it’s just because they don’t understand how precious, and absolutely incredible matter is, or how precious you are, and it is sad. Just because we can understand feelings from a material point of view, people view it as though it somehow demeans our nature, but instead, it says that we are one with everything else. What more could you possibly ask for?”

I prefer, “I am nothing but dust from which the whole world was created.” This is enough to satisfy my oxymoronic desire of being one with all.

To the best of my awareness, I have no desire to be "one with all." I find such a desire to be absurd, and not something to aspire for.

Why? It represents cooperation, acceptance, and love. Possibly promoted by a shared fate or desire for life itself to continue.
